Timetable for week beginning 25th May

Hi boys and girls,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend with your family. This week I have more fun learning activities for you to try. Also you will be doing some activities in your school workbooks. Remember if you get stuck ask an adult for help, take your time and try and keep your work nice and tidy.

It is important that your keep active everyday and help your family with little jobs around the house. Have another great week boys and girls. Keep trying your best and have lots of fun.

Mrs Maguire

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your families are all keeping safe and well.

Last week you got the opportunity to collect your child’s workbooks. I hope this will makes things a little easier with home learning over the new few weeks. I will continue putting up a weekly timetable of activities on our class blog and I will be suggesting what pages to complete from each workbook.

In English, I have included the new letter sound x (sounds like ks). This is the only new letter sound I will be including between now and the holidays (see extra guidelines for more information). Please continue revising all “tricky” words with your child daily.

It would be lovely to hear how your child is getting on. You can contact me directly by class email: juniorrobin19@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued support over the past couple of weeks.
Have a great week and take care,
Mrs Maguire

Extra Guidelines and Notes

Nursery Rhyme

NEW letter sound
X (ks)

Capital letters

Mary had a Little Lamb (make up your own actions)

See page 33 Pre-Reading Activity Book

Note: when your child returns to school they will revise all the letter sounds taught to date. The letter sound x is the last single letter sound left for your child to learn. If you feel comfortable, have a go this week with learning the letter sound x (ks). I have provided the x worksheet in the booklet. Before completing this have a look at the video link below.

The lady in the video introduces the letter sound with a story about Max and Alex. Listen to the story with your child. Pause the video and have a chat about what happened in the story.
Then she introduces the action and sound together.
When saying the x sound, join k and s together and say ks
Pretend to take an x-ray with an x-ray camera, saying ks, ks, ks, ks
This is followed by a short song and some simple blending of words (b-o-x. f-o-x and so on)

Note: this is the only new letter sound that I will be including between now and the Summer holidays.

Continue revising both groups – reading and writing
Group 1
The following capital letters are the same shape, only bigger:
C O P S U V  W Z X

Group 2
The following capital letters have the same sound but may look different:
A B D E F G H I J K L M N Q R T Y

NOTE: Below are some suggestions that you might like to try at home with your child. The videos help with the pronunciation of words and phrases. Also you have the option of watching a short kids programme in Irish on Tg4 on TV or online.

Practice with your child saying hello in Irish. This link will help you with pronunciation
Dia dhuit – hello
Dia is muire dhuit – response to when someone says hello
